Over the weekend of September 22nd and 23rd, Russell Shievely hosted his annual Fall ride. We again stayed on the Adams Co (Ohio) Coon Hunters clubhouse in the heart of the Amish community on Wheat Ridge Road. On Saturday, the entire group drove or rode their horses about 5 miles to Seaman Ohio to ride in the town's Old Fashioned Days parade. Several photos of the horses that were in that parade are displayed here.
The area was suffering through one of the worst droughts on record. There has only been about 2 inches of rain (or less) throughout this part of the country since Spring. Farmers are harvesting what crops they can much earlier that usual. Hay prices are already at $8 for small bales and it looks to only be getting more expensive as we head into Winter. The one good thing is that the trees are preparing for winter early this year and that gave us some wonderful fall colors to view as we rode through the area on Sunday.
Danny Crawford's 5 year old great-grandson loves Chocolate (Chocolate is the name of the mare he is riding).
