2007 Grooms Show

The 2007 annual weekend of horse fun and games at Glen-Dale Park in Fawcett, Ohio got underway on Friday afternoon with the arrival of the "100 Mile" wagon train ride from Cynthiana Kentucky.  Friday evening was spent setting up camp and relaxing as more and more participants brought in their horses and the equipment they planned to use over the weekend.

Early Saturday morning, horses were harnessed, instructions were given, and the field event competitions began.  Each participant was assigned a specific plot to work.  As usual, 86 year old Mr. Earl Ernhardt was there to do the judging duties.  It was very hot for a Fall day with record high temperatures over 90 degrees being recorded.  The area has been under drought conditions for the entire Summer and the ground was very dry. Throughout the day plowing, discing, and planting were attempted.

Saturday evening, there was a log skidding competition followed by a Farm Pull.

On Sunday, just after lunch, the competitions in the show ring began with some lead in classes followed by an obstacle course.  This was followed by horse and mule classes of both farm hitches and fancy hitches.  Dale and Glenna try to have activities and classes for everyone no matter what their age or their interest.  In fact, on Sunday they set up a special halter class on the spur of the moment to allow some youngsters on the grounds the opportunity to show their horses.

This event is totally dependent on the good will of Dales and Glenna Grooms.  They own the park and do much of the work to get things ready. They get help from some of their horse friends, but the majority of the work is done by them personally. There are no entry fees in any event and the prizes consist of ribbons and the occasional donated trophy.  The show is paid for by selling raffle tickets on donated gifts and by donations left in a donation box that is next to the show ring. Food service is provided by a local church group who uses the event to raise money for their missionary activities. Everyone who attends loves the laid back atmosphere and the old time fun feeling that this weekend provides.

THANKS Dale and Glenna, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say "We love you!"
