The 2011 Ohio State Horse Plowing Contest was held at Carriage Hill Farm on April 9, 2011. Carriage Hill Farm is a re-creation of a late 19th century farm and is part of the Five Rivers Metroparks system. It is located just north of Dayton, Ohio in Huber Heights. Winners of the Ohio state plowing contest qualify to represent the state of Ohio at the National Plowing Contest. The day dawned with overcast skies and a chilly breeze was blowing. This weather was fine with the horses as most had not been worked much yet this year and still wore their winter coats. It began to shower around noon, much to the chagrin of your photographer and also to some of the competitors who had not yet begun to work their assigned plots. As you view the attached photos, you will see that some of those later competitors faced an uncomfortable and slippery job to get their plots completed. Despite the showers, however, you will see a lot of smiles as I think everyone had a great time.
