2011 Doyle's Spring Wagon Ride

The first weekend wagon ride of the year was held over the weekend of May 14-15, 2011.  Marvin Doyle invited everyone to his son Terry's Triple DDD Stables near Carlisle, Kentucky to camp and ride.  The entire Spring in this part of the country has been one rain storm after another and this weekend was no different.  On Saturday, the day dawned cloudy and overcast with a misty drizzle that continued throughout much of the day until the group got back to the stables and prepared to eat supper.  At that time, the sun came out and things looked beautiful.  Sunday mornings conditions weren't any better than Saturday morning except that Sunday morning was a lot cooler.  On each morning, however, there was a group of hardy folks who weren't about to let a little rain keep them from enjoying themselves and their horses.  The Saturday ride included 6 wagons and a handful of outriders.  On Sunday morning, there were only 3 wagons, but the number of outriders actually increased.  From a photography standpoint, these conditions presented a real challenge because of the low light and the desire to keep the camera equipment as dry as possible.  This was compounded on Saturday when your photographer got drafted to drive one of the wagons after the regular driver had to leave mid-ride to go home and tend to an emergency situation.  Therefore, there are a very limited number of photos from Saturday's ride displayed here.  My apologies to those on the Saturday ride whose photograph I may have missed.
