2011 Burton's Spring Wagon Ride

On Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend this year, a small group of horse lovers gathered at Jeff and Penny Burton's hilltop farm near Brooksville in Northern Kentucky for their annual Spring ride.  It was one of the first weekends of the entire Spring when there was no rain!  There were 5 wagons and carts along with 11 outriders in attendance.  The day was beautiful with a nice breeze as the group ventured onto the highway and went through the town of Brooksville before heading back onto the small back roads of Bracken County.  Once the ride was over, there was a great supper meal with a nice assortment of dishes and desserts contributed by the participants. Although the day had already been full of horses, a few of the riders saddled up again and took a short ride after the evening meal.  Only a few folks returned on Sunday morning and the group hit the road again.  It turned out to be a much warmer day and was the first day of the season where the air temperature got all of the way up to about 90°F by the end of the day.  Despite the warm temperatures, there was a nice breeze and the day was enjoyed by all!
