2011 Homer Rader's Ride

The members of the Community Draft Horse and Mule Association were invited to come to Bourbon County in Kentucky by Farm Manager Homer Rader, to spend the weekend of June 17-19 at beautiful Columbiana Farm.  The farm is a thoroughbred boarding facility just east of Paris, Kentucky in the heart of Kentucky's famous Bluegrass Country.  As usual, the farm was immaculate and there were plenty of horses on the grounds.  The weather on Friday was sunny, warm, and breezy; the kind of weather that an equine photographer loves to experience.  There were rides planned to leave the farm at about 10AM both Saturday and Sunday mornings, but we were late to leave both days due to morning storms that rolled through the area.  Once the storms passed on Saturday, the day turned out to be a repeat of Friday with sunshine, a nice breeze, and no further rain.  We were able to enjoy the beautiful horse farms and the scenery in that area in comfort.  After the ride, we had a great dinner on Saturday evening topped off with the traditional campfire.  Sunday was Fathers Day and once the morning rain storms ended, it was actually somewhat cool. There was also a lot more cloud cover than on Saturday.  There were even a few light showers at one point during the day.  However, these weren't enough to cause anyone problems or discomfort. Overall, the weekend turned out to be much nicer than one might have suspected if one just listened to the weather reports.  I think that everyone who was there has a good time and will definitely come back the next time Homer invites us.
