The annual Bath County Draft Horse Show for 2011 was sponsored by the Eastern Kentucky Draft Horse and Mule Association on Saturday, July 9th at the Lions Club Park in Owingsville, Ky. following the Friday night horse pull. The weather was perfect although it was hot as can be expected in mid-July. The start time was delayed this year until 5PM with the hope that the heat would be manageable. As with many small town draft shows these days, the number of entries was small, but the quality was still very high. One of the highlights of the day was having Mr. Mike Atkins from Ohio as the judge. In addition to being the high points winner in the 2010 National Plowing Contest last year, Mike is recognized for his knowledge of horses and did an outstanding job of placing the contestants. The fact is that he is also a natural comedian and kept both the participants and the audience entertained was a bonus. The evening "farm" competitions were a lot of fun for all of the participants and for the audience members who stayed to watch. Unfortunately, the quality of my evening photos deteriorated as the daylight and my batteries both started to run out of juice.
It looked like Mike was checking to see if this mare had bad breath...!
