Draft Horse Weekend

The 2011 version of the Draft Horse weekend at Grooms' Glen-Dale Park in Faucett, Ohio was held on the first weekend of October, as usual.  The weather for the first day of the show was like a continuation of the weather that plagued the show in 2010.   It was overcast, cold, and windy on Saturday and not a very good day to be outside at all (or to be trying to take photos), but the horses sure didn't seem to mind.  Because of the weather, attendance by the general public on Saturday was rather light, although there were plenty of competitors for the field work along with a lot of folks who brought their horses and mules out just for the fun of it.  There were plenty of entries in the log skidding, but the weather severely reduced the entries that showed up for the farm pull on Saturday evening.  Sunday's weather turned out to be a great.  There was sunshine and nice temperatures in the afternoon for the obstacle course and the show.  However, there was probably a lingering effect from the Saturday weather because the crowd was again very light.  Everyone who was there seemed to really enjoy themselves and there were more door prizes than I had seen before.  As always, Dale and Glenna along with the members of the Friendship Club did a great job of preparing the grounds and getting everything set up.  The food was provided by a local church group who used this event as a fund raiser for support of their missions in Haiti. The only losers in this event were probably Dale and Glenna since the light crowd resulted in much reduced sales of raffle tickets and in less show donations.  We did have some 2012 calendars with photos from the prior year show that were left over after the event.  You can contact Glenna or me if you are interested in purchasing one of them.
